The BMW Concierge Experience: Buying a BMW, Handled End to End

One Client Advisor, from the first question to the day the car is in your driveway. We locate it, price it in writing, appraise your trade remotely, and hand you the keys with the technology already set up. The short answer

The BMW Concierge Experience at BMW of San Rafael is the easiest way to buy or lease a BMW in Marin, San Francisco and the wider Bay Area. One dedicated Client Advisor handles the whole purchase or lease, remotely if you prefer.

That covers consultation by phone, video or text, configuration guidance, and a search across in-stock, in-transit and in-production BMWs. If the car you want doesn’t exist yet, there’s a complimentary factory order. You also get written pricing with every figure itemized, a remote trade appraisal, digital paperwork where it’s allowed, and a scheduled delivery with a BMW Genius orientation and a complimentary BMW Encore follow-up. The purchase and the long-term service relationship stay at the same BMW Center.

What you are actually buying when you hire a broker

An auto broker sells convenience, and it is a real product. You describe the car, someone else does the searching, the negotiating and the paperwork, and a vehicle appears. For a shopper who dreads the showroom, that is worth something — and the brokerage business in the Bay Area has grown on exactly that promise.

What is less well understood is where the car comes from. A broker does not hold franchise rights, cannot take factory allocation, and does not stock inventory. When a broker sources a BMW, the vehicle is coming from a BMW Center — possibly this one. What you are paying for is a coordinator between you and a dealership.

The question is whether you need the coordinator. Every service that makes a broker attractive — remote consultation, sourcing a car that isn’t on the lot, a written number before you commit, a trade valued without driving anywhere, paperwork handled — is something an authorized BMW Center can do directly. The difference is that when the transaction is finished, the broker’s involvement ends, and ours doesn’t.

A broker can find you a BMW. It cannot allocate one from the factory, certify a pre-owned one, honor the warranty on it, or be the place you call when a recall notice arrives. Which is why the convenience is worth recreating here, where the rest of the ownership relationship already lives.

The Concierge Experience, step by step

The sequence below is the whole process. You can run all of it remotely, or come in at any point you’d rather do something in person.

  1. One Client Advisor is assigned to youNot a rotating desk and not a call center. The same person answers your first question and hands you the keys, and stays reachable afterwards by phone, email or text.
  2. A consultation on your termsPhone, video, text or in person at 1599 Francisco Blvd E. If you would rather send three questions by text on a Tuesday evening than sit in a showroom on a Saturday, that is a normal way to do this.
  3. Model and configuration guidanceWhich X is the right size for your garage, whether the plug-in hybrid makes sense for your commute, what a given package actually changes day to day. You can also build your own BMW first and bring us the configuration.
  4. A search across everything, not just the lotIn-stock inventory, vehicles already in transit from the factory, cars still in production, and the dealer network. See the sourcing table below for what each path means for timing.
  5. A complimentary factory order if the car doesn’t exist yetCustom build requests are submitted free of charge. You specify it, we place it, and you get a build that is exactly the car you configured rather than the closest compromise on a lot somewhere.
  6. Written pricing, with the incentives you qualify for reviewedSelling price, term, mileage, due at signing, documentation fee, any dealer-installed equipment, tax and DMV — itemized in writing before you commit to anything. We also check your eligibility against current BMW offers and BMW Financial Services programs, including loyalty, conquest, college graduate and military eligibility.
  7. Your trade appraised without a tripSend photos, mileage and condition notes and get a real number. Start the appraisal online. If you are coming out of a BMW lease, the Lease Return Center handles the return in the same appointment.
  8. Paperwork handled digitally where California permitsCredit application, disclosures and the documents that can legally be executed electronically are done before you arrive, so delivery day is about the car rather than a folder.
  9. A scheduled delivery appointmentA set time, the car prepared, and no waiting. Not a two-hour block that turns into four.
  10. A BMW Genius orientation, then a complimentary Encore follow-upPhone pairing, driver assistance settings, charging, the My BMW app. Then a complimentary BMW Encore session a few weeks later, once you have lived with the car and have the questions you didn’t know to ask on day one.
  11. The relationship continuesWarranty work, recalls, maintenance and your next car all run through the same BMW Center. Service scheduling is Monday to Friday from 7:00am, which is early enough to drop off before a commute into the city.

How we find your BMW — and how long each path takes

The honest answer to “how fast can I get it” depends entirely on which of five states your car is in. A broker can pursue any of them — but always through a franchised dealer, which puts a relay in the middle of every question about where your car actually is. Here, the person who can see the allocation is the person you are already talking to.

In stock at BMW of San RafaelImmediate. Drive it today, buy it today.
In transitDays to a few weeks. It has left the factory and is on its way here. It can be held for you before it lands.

Where an authorized BMW Center can go that a broker cannot

This is not a list of things brokers do badly. It is a list of things that require franchise rights, factory access or a service department — structural capabilities, not effort.

Capability comparison. “Broker” refers to the independent auto brokerage model generally, not to any one company.

What it costs, and what “itemized in writing” means here

Requesting the Concierge Experience costs nothing. There is no search fee, no sourcing fee and no charge to submit a custom build request — that is BMW of San Rafael’s standing policy on its vehicle finder, not a promotion.

On the vehicle itself, the commitment is narrower and more useful than a slogan: every figure is itemized in writing before you agree to anything. That means the selling price, the documentation fee, any dealer-installed equipment on that specific vehicle, tax, registration and DMV fees — and on a lease, the term, the mileage allowance, the money factor, the residual and the exact due-at-signing amount.

Why we phrase it that way. Plenty of car-buying services promise “no surprises.” A surprise is only avoided if the numbers arrive early and in full, in a form you can take away and compare. Ask us for the itemized figure and ask anyone else you are talking to for theirs. The comparison is the point.

If you want to understand the mechanics before you talk to anyone, the Finance Center and the BMW Financial Services pages cover how BMW structures leases and loans, and current national offers lists the programs in market right now. Our guide to how a BMW lease payment is calculated shows the arithmetic with every assumption labeled.

When a broker genuinely is the right call

If you are still choosing between unrelated brands — a BMW, a Volvo and an Acura, say — a broker can shop all three at once, and no single franchised dealer can do that for you. That is a real advantage, and it is the situation the brokerage model was built for.

If you have decided on a BMW, or you are leaning strongly that way, the calculation changes. At that point the coordinator in the middle is coordinating with us, and everything that makes ownership work — allocation, financial services programs, certification, warranty, recalls, Genius, Encore, service — already sits on this side of the conversation. The convenience does not require the intermediary.

Doing this from Marin, San Francisco or the North Bay

BMW of San Rafael sits at 1599 Francisco Blvd E, just off Highway 101 in San Rafael — which is most of the point. From Mill Valley, Larkspur, Novato or San Anselmo it is a short run up or down the 101 corridor. From San Francisco it is a straight shot over the Golden Gate, and from the East Bay it is across the Richmond–San Rafael Bridge. Part of what people are buying when they use a broker is not having to make a trip; here, for most of Marin, the trip was never the obstacle.

Local specifics matter to the recommendation too. Garage and driveway dimensions in older Marin housing stock genuinely rule some vehicles in and out, which is a real input into an X1-versus-X3-versus-X5 conversation. Bridge tolls and carpool-lane occupancy rules change the math on a plug-in hybrid or an electric BMW for a daily commuter. Winter chain control on the I-80 climb to Tahoe changes it again for a household that goes up most weekends. These are the questions worth having a conversation about before a car is ordered, not after.

Common questions

Is there a fee for the BMW Concierge Experience?

No. There is no fee to use the Concierge Experience, and no charge to submit a vehicle search or a custom build request. BMW of San Rafael states on its vehicle finder that “find it for me” and custom build requests are available free of charge. You pay for the vehicle, and every figure in that price is itemized in writing before you commit.

Can I buy a BMW entirely remotely?

Nearly all of it, yes. Consultation, configuration, the vehicle search, the incentive review, your trade appraisal and most of the paperwork can all be handled by phone, video or text. A few documents are signed in person at your scheduled delivery appointment.

How long does a custom-ordered BMW take?

Typically six to twelve weeks, depending on the specification. That is BMW of San Rafael’s own published guidance. If that is longer than you want to wait, the same advisor will check what is in stock, already in transit or currently in production first — those paths run from immediate to a few weeks.

What is the difference between a BMW Center and an auto broker?

A broker coordinates a purchase from a franchised dealer; a BMW Center is the franchised dealer. That means factory allocation, complimentary factory ordering, BMW Financial Services programs, Certified Pre-Owned and M Certified vehicles, BMW Genius and Encore, and warranty, recall and maintenance work all sit here directly. A broker’s involvement generally ends at delivery.

Do I have to come to the dealership to have my trade appraised?

No. Send photos along with mileage and condition details and you will get a real figure back remotely. If you are returning a BMW lease, the Lease Return Center can process the return at the same appointment where you take delivery of the next car.

What is BMW Encore, and is it included?

BMW Encore is a complimentary follow-up session a few weeks after delivery, and yes, it is included. The first orientation covers the essentials on delivery day. Encore exists because the questions that actually matter tend to surface after a few weeks of living with the car — charging habits, driver assistance settings, the My BMW app, features you have not touched yet.

Does the Concierge Experience cover Certified Pre-Owned BMWs?

Yes. The same advisor and the same process apply to a BMW Certified Pre-Owned or M Certified vehicle. One point worth knowing: a broker can locate a used BMW through a dealer, but BMW Certified Pre-Owned status and its warranty come only from an authorized BMW Center.

Which areas does BMW of San Rafael serve?

Marin County, San Francisco, the North Bay and the wider Bay Area. The dealership is at 1599 Francisco Blvd E in San Rafael, directly off Highway 101, reachable from San Francisco over the Golden Gate Bridge and from the East Bay over the Richmond–San Rafael Bridge. Much of the process can be completed without a trip at all.

Tell us the car. We’ll do the rest.

Describe the BMW you want — model, specification, timing, budget, and whether you are leaning toward a lease or a purchase. A Client Advisor will come back with what we can source, how long each option takes, and a written, itemized number. There is no charge for the request and no obligation attached to it.
